Snapshot:
Intensity: STRENUOUS
Length: 8-12 mile range
Duration: All day exploration
Pace: varied
Elevation: 1,700ish, but very rugged terrain
Description:
ROUND 2.....we missed many rock formations in our first outing to this amazing area. Updated maps will take us to a couple caves and various rock formations.

Bartlett Mountain in State Game Lands 57 is extremely challenging with off-trail backcountry adventures and no marked or maintained paths. Navigation requires significant experience and reliable GPS/offline maps due to non-existent cell service and rugged, confusing terrain. All attendees must have downloaded SGL 57 maps from Alltrails, Gaia or any other mapping source that runs on GPS. The hike will be limited to 12 experienced hikers that have hike with me or the co host before OR can provide info to prove the necessary experience. All signups will be wait listed and then approved or denied based upon your hiking level. This is not to be difficult, but to be SAFE!
. Pace and style will be different then my usual hikes. We will work as a unit and stay together. This will be FUN and CHALLENGING!

About Bartlett Mountain:
The only spruce bald ecosystem in Pennsylvania. Bartlett Mountain in general is incredibly diverse and scenic with views, waterfalls, miles of giant rocks, caves, chasms, mazes, overhangs, spruce forests, hemlock forests, boreal wetlands, old mines. It is a very unique in that no other mountain in PA has its level of diversity and scenery.

Here is a great article about it: Hike Bartlett

Subject to change, but plan is to hike up through White Brook (yes your feet may get wet) and find our way over to Coma Rock, Glazed cave, etc...From here we will find our way to Boulder Maze before finally bushwhacking to Conglomerate cave and the nearby overhangs.
This time we will do our best to over the heavy brush when possible. But set your expectations accordingly knowing that is is a true adventure!

End time is best estimate, but we will make sure to get back to lot by 4. Mileage and elevation are best guesses as well. No way to map out for accuracy.

GEAR REQUIRED:
1- Proper footwear- hiking BOOTS best given the water and mud.
2- Appropriate clothing for weather conditions
3- WATER or other source of hydration, food. first aid supplies
4- Electrolytes helpful
5- Hiking poles and backpacks as needed.
6- Bear spray as desired
7-Good idea to spray for ticks ahead of time
8- Headlamps for caves and bring a whistle if you have one. Some hiking bags have them built in.
