7 Mile Hike at High Point State Park - 900+ ft of elevation

This beautiful scenic hike hits the highest elevation in NJ at 1803 ft above sea level. when you climb the 291 steps to the top observation level of the granite obelisk of the High Point Monument, you'll add another 220 ft for a grand total of 2023 ft above sea level - where you can see for miles into PA, NJ & NY. Note: We are parking outside the Park and will not have an entrance fee.

You do not need to Camp to hike with us.

The majority of this hike is a moderate level, however the short but steep climb to the high point leads right into the 291 step climb up the obelisk, so this small portion of the hike would be catergorized as moderate-advanced.

We will also cross the Atlantic White Cedar Bog, which is the highest elevation white cedar swamp in the world and is a unique habitat for many rare and endangered species. Atlantic White Cedar - State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites

Best to wear hiking boots or trail running shoes as we'll be on dirt trails with rocks and tree roots, not paved paths. You may also want to bring your hiking pole(s). Definitely recommend hydrating before the hike and bring plenty of water and a snack.

There are restrooms five minutes into the hike, at about the 25% and 75% of the way points and again, near the end.

We’ll take a short ten minute snack break around the mid point of the hike.

Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

This is for communication purposes to ensure that those in attendance understand exactly what they are signing up for. Please be courteous and change your rsvp in a timely fashion if you can no longer attend this event.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are running late, group message me before 8:45 so we can let you know where to meet us. If more than 10 minutes late, you may need to pay the $10 park entrance fee in order to meet up with and not hold us up. I cannot read or reply to messages once we start.
