What we’re about

Welcome to the creative outdoor art making group. We will be hosting events outdoors (en plein air) to sketch, paint and draw in your preferred media to capture the world around us. No expertise is necessary. Beginner or pro, this is an opportunity for you to create art in a social setting. We will meet in all types of weather conditions except thunderstorms, heavy rain or below -10°c weather.

We look forward to meeting you and creating together.

Please consider completing this short survey and provide us with your ideas and event suggestions so we may host events that you will be interested in attending. Thank you

Art Making Membership: A few rays of sunshine are teasing "En Plein Air"-- the French phrase for making art in the outdoors. ...which has us thinking about the many events we're looking forward to posting, from regular meetups at local parks and paddle launches to painting at Gage Greenhouse in Hamilton and beyond. Last season we enjoyed lovely painting adventures to Tawes Winery, Black Bridge in Hespeler as well a visit to the McMichael and a couple of artist studio tours in Waterloo Region. We're looking forward to repeating these gatherings and adding additional enticing locations such as Elora Gorge, Port Credit, various marinas and perhaps even Tobermory, Algonquin Park and others.

Three things going forward:
1. **Name Change**
2. We will be changing the name of the meetup from 'Outdoor Art Making' to 'Waterloo Plein Air' -- has a nicer ring to it, don't you think?

and, a slightly stickier topic,

3. Meetup Cost of Operation
Ever since taking on leadership of this meetup (so it wouldn't go away), I havebeen hosting the group at a cost for the Meetup platform at $37.26 per month--- ouch! If we would like to continue using this platform, we propose membership contributions of $20 per year...less than $2 per month, among 20 members in addition to Delia and I. If we have 40 members, we can take it down to $10 per year. Clearly, the more the merrier :)

In order to organize and see that we have critical mass, please become an official member by February 25th by e-transfering $20 to dahvi_n@hotmail.com. If we do not reach 20 members, your funds will be returned by March 5th. If we exceed 20 members, you will be refunded the difference ($20 - ($37.26 x 12 months=$447.12) / number of paying members).

Meet and Greet Sunday, February 25th - Unsure if you want to commit? Please come meet Delia and I at the charming Midnight Run Coffee House on King ST in Waterloo on February 25th at 10:00am. We've reserved a large table in front of the large windows at the back. We'll brainstorm more events and please feel free to share work. We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on this platform.

Housekeeping: Non-refundable (after group efficacy membership is established) fees are to be collected on February 25th of each year. As a member, you can bring guests to one event each, and if they would like to attend again, they can join as a member. Some activities will feature additional costs, which will be explained in each event description. We have a **"3 strikes and you're out" No show policy.** If your plans change and you cannot make it to an event you have signed up for, please change your RSVP or contact the organizer to let us know that you cannot make it. If you fail to change your rsvp or inform the organizer that you cannot make it three times without explanation, you will be removed from the group without refund. Please treat us like you would if you were meeting up with your friends. We want to create a real and engaged community here, so we will annually be removing those folks who have not logged into the group for more than 2 years.

This is a safe, respectful and welcoming community. Our organizer reserves the right to remove members who they believe are engaging in unsafe or disrespectful behaviour. Thankfully, this has never happened because our group members are so kind and wonderful! But we intend to keep it that way.

Cancelling Events/Changing RSVP: Please respect your RSVP. Your host has researched the route and history, so cancelling at least 24 hours before an event is expected. We understand things come up last minute, but this should be a one-off. If you have 3 "no-shows" (RSVP-ing and not showing without cancelling) or more, you will removed from the group.

Liability: By attending an event you agree to assume all responsibility for you own safety. It is up to you to keep yourself safe. Adventure within your abilities.
