Hiking, Biking, Canoeing, Golfing, Kayaking, Camping, in the Summer.
Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, Hiking, Skiing (downhill/XC), actually anything to do with being outdoors, will be a focus for our group. I mean we do live in the Upper Midwest, so getting outside all year round is important to us.
Take a look at what’s happening, find something that looks interesting, and e-mail the organizer taking the lead to find out more. The sooner you get involved, the more people you'll meet, and the more familiar and fun it begins to feel.
Don't you think you deserve some fun in your life and more people to enjoy life with?! Come and check us out. After all it's FREE to sign up and in these tough economic times that's a real plus!
Please check out the video on our "About" page. What a hoot!

Hike in Minnehaha Dog Park
Minnehaha Off-Leash Dog Park, 5399 Minnehaha Park Dr S, Minneapolis, MN, USLet's make new friends, and take a hike inside this woodsy winter wonderland. This event is free for people, and you do not need to bring a dog to attend. If you do bring your dog, please comply with MPRB licensing and rules.
The pace will vary from casual to moderate depending on terrain. We will certainly go slower over ice or rugged terrain. The main flat trails offer a total of 3 miles among the different loops through the woods. The rugged (optional) hike up the cliffs offer an additional mile in each direction. While rugged, it's a breathtaking bird's eye view of the vast forest, especially after a snowfall. It's much like the SHT.
While the main trails are mostly flat, they may be icy and require proper foot traction, There will be an option to select mostly flat terrain or rugged inclines that provide excellent strength training. Foot traction is required regardless. By signing up you agree to release the organizers, event hosts and other members of the event from any liability.
- Please keep your RSVP current. Leaders rely on attendance selected at 12:45 the day of the hike.
- We'll meet in the pay lot near the off leash entrance at 12:50 and confirm everyone has proper foot traction, which is a must on all of the trails within this park.
- Hiking poles are strongly recommended on the steep rugged trails, which can be optional. Gail (driving a dark blue Honda Fit with two Goldens) has a few spares to lend, which must be decided before leaving the parking lot. If you'd like to borrow a pole, please arrive in the pay lot promptly at 12:50.
- We may split into two groups if some prefer a less/more rugged hike. We have two leaders that can navigate path/direction.
Free Parking - along residential streets, shown here, which is a 5 minute walk across Hwy 55 with a traffic light/pedestrian crossing to get to the pay lot (meeting spot).
Pay Lot - MPRB lots offer annual permits as well as hourly options.
Dress in layers - trees shelter much of the wind and you'll warm up as we start walking. Consider a small backpack to shed layers.
Things to bring:
- Foot traction *must have
- Hiking pole(s) *nice to have
- leash to walk from your car into the park
- extra clean up bags to be an excellent citizen
- water for yourself and pups

X-C Ski at Lake Harriet starting at the Rose Garden (Snowshoers welcome too)
Lyndale Park Gardens, 1300 West 42nd Street, Minneapolis, MN, USLet's X-C Ski (or snowshoe) around Lake Harriet once or twice, at a casual pace, and get those fantastic muscles warmed up. We might have ourselves a real ski season ahead of us? Hopefully yes! Probably best to start with a 3-5 miles outing.
This will NOT be groomed, which means this event is FREE if you have your own equipment. My family has one pair of men's NNN boot size 13 with classic skis & poles that can be borrowed, as well as two adjustable pairs of snowshoes. Send me a chat, or add a comment below if you'd like to borrow either. If you'd like to try either for the first time and have questions, throw that in the comment too, if you like. I love this group for its helpful members, and we all had a first experience at one time. Kudos to you for exploring a new hobby! We'll be on flat terrain, see seconds 28-50 of this video for beginner tips.
We'll blaze our own trail if other enthusiasts haven't already done so. Many recreational X-C skiers blaze their own trail on the summer walking path which isn't plowed in the winter. The beauty of this option is an awesome view of holiday lights on neighboring homes. If the lake shore is deemed safe by DNR standards, we can also do a loop along the shore of the lake. This option will make you forget you're in the city. It'll be your own little snow globe.
Dogs are welcome if they have experience with you in these activities. You are responsible to pick up after your pet. If you've never skijored or snowshoed with your dog, chat with me and we'll schedule a 1:1 for a different time. I do have a skijor dog harness and homemade lead if you just want to see how the equipment works.
Things to consider:
- Optional - bring a headlamp. The residential areas are well lit, but some sections along the lake are not.
- Dress in breathable layers. It will be chilly at the start, but you will warm up. If it is actively snowing and you don't own a ski jacket, warm clothes covered by your good rain jacket is much better than a winter coat.
- Bring water as needed.
- Bring a dry shirt for afterwards if you are not driving straight home. As you cool down after the event, it is easy to get chilled and a dry shirt will help that.
Please keep your RSVP updated. It is confusing for the leaders if they do not know if they should wait or get going with the event.
As with any location, please do not leave valuables in the car to tempt any thieves.
By signing up you agree to release the organizers, event hosts and other members of the event from any liability.
Beginners welcome . . . even if that means you'd like to speed walk alongside us to watch and learn.2 attendees
