This out-and-back Oquirrh Mountain adventure is a fun change-of-pace to Wasatch Front trails. Starting from the end of the pavement up Rose Canyon. We’ll hike an out-and-back 1.75-mile route (around 3.5-miles RT) sandwiched between Camp Williams and Rio Tinto. We’ll trek through groves of overhanging trees, mosey adjacent to flowing streams, and scamper through wild turkey habitat. We might see deer. We’ll enjoy the change of seasons as foliage switches over from summer greens to autumn hues. We’ll gain approximately 550 feet over rolling terrain (so total elevation gain is greater) before reversing direction and returning to the trailhead. Our itinerary is to stop to socialize at this halfway point at a picnic table – so bring a snack for this chatty interlude. Meet Elliott at the top of Rose Canyon at the Yellow Fork Canyon trailhead in Herriman at 9:00AM. In the past this has been about a 3-hour event. No Dogs.

Trailhead Directions: In Salt Lake County drive 13400 South west to 6400 West and turn south. This is Rose Canyon Road. Drive south on Rose Canyon Road one-half mile to the first stop sign and turn right. Follow this road 3.5 miles to the end of the road at Yellow Fork Park trailhead at approximately 8140 south Rose Canyon Road. This is a Salt Lake County equestrian park. We will rally in the small parking lot at the end of the paved road. Park in the equestrian area if the small parking lot is filled. There are restrooms at the trailhead.
