TOUGH HIKE 27km Challenge - Surrey 3 Peaks 760M ASCENT

Details

This is one of our large group hikes – more people, more social. If you prefer a smaller group experience, please choose one of our standard-size hikes instead.

Our toughest day hike from London - are you up for the challenge?

Taking in the three highest peaks in Surrey - Box hill (224m), Leith Hill (294m) and Holmbury Hill (261m) and being nearly as long as the Yorkshire Three Peaks, they are also known as the Yorkshire cousins. This is a formidable challenge and accessible from London in a day.

As well as being a stunning route in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's also a great training hike for anyone doing a big challenge this year like The Yorkshire or National 3 Peaks as well as Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp or Mount Toubkal.

TOUGHNESS WARNING - this is a tough and very hilly hike and is also long, with some steep sections of loose ground. On one section it's so steep that you will likely need to use your hands. You need to be an experienced and very fit hiker. It is not suitable for beginners or anyone who has only done intermediate hikes.
To be fair to those attending, if you are unable to keep up with the group or finish the hike, you will need to leave the hike and get a taxi at your own expense, the hike will not be slowed down or cut short. Our pace will average 4 to 4.4kmph.
At over 700m ascent, it is almost the same ascent as Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales.
If you have any doubts at all then this is not a hike to join. If you are unsure, email us, but anyone who cannot keep up with the group will need to leave the hike and no refund will be due - only sign up if you are happy with this.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Conquer the 3 Surrey peaks - situation in an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”
• Enjoy breathtaking hiking through the woods and hills of the North Downs
• Hike through England's largest vineyard - Denbies Wine Estate
• See Leith Hill tower
• Great training hike for any tough challenges you have coming up

HIKE DESCRIPTION

As well as being a great challenge, this hike is also stunningly beautiful, taking in much of the Surrey Hills, Surrey is the most heavily wooded county in England and also conveniently very close to London.

Taking in some amazing scenery across the three Surrey peaks, our trail will pass through ancient sandy trails and woodlands and offers spectacular views from all three of the hills. Upon reaching Leith Hill, we get some of the most far reaching views of any hike we do - being the second highest point in South East England. We will see as far as the South Downs by the sea and on a clear day from the Northern edge of the hill we can see several central London landmark buildings.

This is a tough hike, due to the length of the hike and tight timing, we do not usually have an end of hike pub stop unless time allows.
