What we’re about
This group is for anyone with any level of outdoor experience who wants to meet other LGBTQ+* folks while enjoying our beautiful state!
Due to the increase in Meetup fees (annual groups are now $300 to run), as of 4/1/24, I am requesting a $2 contribution from participants who can afford it (donation is not required to participate and no one will be turned away). Funds go toward the cost of hosting the group. Cash or venmo is preferred.
The majority of our events are focused on hiking, but other outdoor/indoor activities are offered such as climbing, walking, running, bird watching, etc. We also sometimes head indoors for social events. We want to offer a variety of ways for people to meet others and make community.
The point of our hikes are NOT to get to the summit as quickly as possible. We do want to keep a steady pace, but more importantly enjoy nature and each other’s company, take photos, pet dogs that pass us on the trail, and hopefully make new friends! We want members to socialize and often go out to a brewery for post hiking food and drink.
Our hike locations vary but you will see a lot offered in the Golden-Boulder-Morrison-Idaho Springs areas. The majority of the hikes offered are rated as easy or moderately challenging levels of intensity, although we schedule a few hard hikes (such as a 13er or long 8+ mile hike) during the summer and fall. Please read the event description in its entirety for details of each hike.
Members are always allowed to bring their dogs on hikes, as long as the dog is leashed and the particular trail allows dogs. Please be mindful of the intensity level of the hike when deciding if your pet is up for it. There will also be no official carpool, please use caution if you decide to ride with people you meet in the group!
*We are all-inclusive, no matter your orientation, as long as you are respectful of everyone. The main goal of this group is to give all its members, especially those who are transgender or non-binary, the opportunity to have fun and socialize in nature without feeling friction caused by their identity. Anyone who is insensitive towards any group member will be asked to leave and will not be allowed on further outings. Straight allies are welcome to join us but please keep in mind that this is not just another "Denver Area Hiking" group.
*Thank you to Kelly K for the main group photo

KINDLY READ ALL THE DESCRIPTION 🤠
Brainard Lake Recreation Area is beautiful and I snagged a parking permit. My Subaru Forest can squeeze me and 4 others. We would meet at the Brainard Lake Winter Lot, load packs and people (sorry, no doggos due to lake of space) into my vehicle, to proceed through the gate with my permit - for the 3 mile drive down to Mitchell Lake Trailhead.
AllTrails : Blue Lake via Mitchell Lake Trail
This hike takes us ~ 5.6 to 6.0 miles - through forest, over streams, passing Mitchell Lake #1 and #2 and #3, to a stunning and aptly name destination lake set below Mount Toll (12,933’) and Paiute Peak (13,012’) and Mount Audubon (13,209’).
Possible 🫎 sightings. No guarantees.
Brainard Lake Rec Area and into the Indian Peak Wilderness for this hike.
There is NO (zero, nadda, nil) cell service at the trailhead. And for me, I actually lose cell service half way into the drive.
Early start time to (1) maybe see moose and (2) I’ve obligations late afternoon.
Time permitting we can also walk over to Long Lake after returning to the Mitchell Lake parking area.
