About us
We are a group of adventurers from the LGBTQ community looking to get out on trails, on rivers, or anywhere outside, actively enjoying nature and the great outdoors. Our adventures include hiking, biking, kayaking, ziplining, camping, yoga and any/all other outdoors recreational activities members want to do. Looking to make new friends in the LGBTQ community while having a great adventure? Then this group is for you.
We also welcome our straight brothers, sisters, friends, and allies!
The Outdoorsy Adventure Team is officially a nonprofit organization! While our love for exploring the great outdoors remains at the heart of our group, we’re expanding our mission to include community outreach.
As a nonprofit, we’ll be raising funds for local charities, organizing food drives, participating in community awareness events, and supporting our group’s operations. To help make this possible, we will begin charging a $10 annual membership donation. This small contribution will go a long way in helping us:
• Cover costs like maintaining our Meet-Up presence.
• Fund our participation in community events.
• Host an annual social (spring or holiday) to bring our community together.
• Donate all remaining funds at the end of the year to our favorite local charities.
We’re incredibly excited about this next chapter and hope you’ll support our efforts as we move forward with this nonprofit initiative. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in our community while enjoying nature and building connections.

Exploring Cumberland Island National Seashore

Cumberland Island is Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island and offers hikers a unique combination of ecosystems in a way that no other southeastern barrier island of its kind can. Towering dunes, freshwater lakes, maritime forest, salt marshes, deserted beaches and wild horses roaming freely, Cumberland Island National Seashore has it all.
A beautiful 45 minute ferry ride will take us from St. Mary's, GA to Cumberland Island’s Sea Camp dock. We’ll follow the Dungeness Loop Trail east to the ocean and walk south along the deserted beach. At the sound end of the beach we'll head back west through the sand dunes and the salt marsh, the abandoned cemetery and eventually arrive at the ruins of the Dungeness Mansion. We’ll explore the ruins and then head back north to Sea Camp Ranger Station where we can rest, eat lunch and await the ferry. The trail is about 4.3 miles and is considered an easy one. We’ll have a leisurely 4.5 hours to explore the island and enjoy the day.

Important Cumberland Island Ferry Information -
There are no bridges to Cumberland Island. Access is only via ferry from the town of St. Mary’s, GA. Ferry tickets must be purchased round trip but each way must purchased as an individual ticket, so you’ll need to make two individual ticket purchases.
You will be purchasing -- September 26 - 9:00 AM ferry from St. Mary’s, GA to Cumberland Island
- September 26 - 2:45 PM return ferry from Cumberland Island to St Mary’s, GA
Pay special attention to the departure times when purchasing your tickets. If you accidentally purchase the wrong time you can call and they will fix it for you.
Adult - round trip ticket $44 plus tax.
Senior - round trip ticket $42 plus tax.In addition to the ferry cost there is a $15 Park entry fee. This can be paid for online or at the Visitor’s Center when checking in (no charge if you have a National Park Service Pass).
Cumberland Island Ferry tickets must be reserved and purchased in advance at Cumberland Island Ferry. I strongly suggest you purchase your ferry tickets as soon as possible. The ferry has a 146 passenger capacity and tickets frequently sell out in advance
There is a small snack bar on the ferry that offers coffee, chips, etc.
PLEASE READ -
- Meeting location: Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center at 8:00 AM, Saturday, September 26, 2026. Visitors must check in at least one hour prior to the ferry departure at 9:00 AM. All unclaimed reservations will be cancelled 30 minutes prior to departure.
- Driving directions to the Visitor Center: 113 St Marys St W, St Marys, GA 31558.
- Note: parking is not permitted directly in front of the Visitor Center. However, there is ample free parking available on the street.
- Facilities: restrooms are located in the Visitors Center and on Cumberland Island at the Sea Camp Ranger Station.
- No pets (service animal companions under ADA Title II and III may be allowed )
- Bring sturdy shoes, hat, back pack, bug spray, sun screen, plenty of water (seriously - bring lots of water), trail snacks and/or a lunch, binoculars, camera and/or mobile phone.
- Bring your ferry ticket purchase confirmation email.
- Dining: there are no concessions on the island. Bring a picnic lunch to eat during our lunch break. There is a small snack shop in St. Mary’s that offers bag lunches for purchase.
- There are no trash facilities, pack out all your own trash.
- Carpooling: please indicate in the comments if you’re interested in this and we can set this up.
