Jekyll Island narrated walk and picnic.
Details
In just a little over an hour from Jacksonville, we will be walking among the lanes where some of the most influential people in American history once had their winter playground. Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Carnegies and more wintered here at the end of the 1800's. Still there are many of their homes, and the crown jewel is the 1886 Club Hotel restored to its original magnificence which by itself is worth the visit. Then a fascinating tour of the Jekyll Island History Museum and the Georgia Sea Turtle Rescue will top off our sightseeing. The hotel has a delicious sandwich shop (a little pricey, but wonderful) or bring a picnic sandwich and chips and folding chair and we will have lunch under the tree canopy. I will announce that location at the hike.
There is a small fee per vehicle to get onto the island, cards accepted, and a nominal fee for the Turtle Rescue Building and the museum, but other than that, there are no more fees. Just follow the signs from I-95 to Jekyll Island, and then the signs to the historical hotel. Park, and walk to the pier, where we will meet at 10:00.
