Come explore the beautiful 5+ miles of trails on the University of North Florida campus. These trails traverse through big cypress habitat, pine flatwoods, swamps around Lake Oneida, and sandhill habitat where gopher tortoises make their homes. There are various trails we can choose from on the day depending on how long everyone wants to hike and what sort of wildlife people are interested in trying to catch a glimpse of. There are also points I can point out where people can leave early for a shorter hike if need be.

These trails are part of the University's Sawmill Slough Preserve, a nature and research preserve designated to encourage natural biodiversity. Due to this status, unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the nature trails in order to protect the plant and bird life in the area.

If people are interested, we can also take some time to explore the campus itself after our nature hike. There are some gorgeous gardens and lakes within the center of campus, and since the semester will be over by this date, we are less likely to run into students wandering around.

Parking is free on campus on the weekends! If most people can plan on parking in lot 14 and taking just a bit of a walk toward the trailhead area, that would be ideal! If you need a closer parking lot, you can use Lot 100.
