Highlights

Forests, views, and the Dandenong Botanic Garden at its absolute peak - Rhododendrons, Azaleas & Camellias in full colour, plus the stunning Chelsea Australian Garden.

Mathias Rd loop (7.7km) + Botanic Garden circuit = approx 12km total.

Meet 8:15am for 8:30am start, outside Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden entrance.

Toilets available at Olinda Recreation Reserve at rear of clubrooms.

A highlight of Brisbane Ranges National Park the Anakie Gorge walk is a 11.3km hike which meanders through a unique dry gorge and will take about 3 hours. We will hike in a clockwise direction to get the steep, rocky climb out of the way first. From the Anakie Gorge picnic area we'll venture south on the Ted Errey Nature circuit where you can catch glimpses of treecreepers and robins flying in and out of the eucalypt forest. 2.5km into the circuit you’ll arrive at Nelsons Lookout which on a clear day provides sweeping views of seemingly endless forest. The track continues north and then a gradual descent will bring us back to the picnic area and car park.

Walk is graded moderate although there is a steep climb to begin with which will get the heart started

Lets meet at the Anakie Gorge picnic Area at 915 AM. Boots a must and poles will be handy.

This 10.5 km grade three circuit walk starts from Perfect Cure Creek car park ( 2 hour drive + from Melbourne) at the start of Kegs Spur Track, ascending to High Camp, then along Blowhard Spur Track to Blowhard Summit before heading down Merlo Lookout Track to Merlo Lookout and back to the car park. Will take approx 3 hours to complete.

The Blowhard Summit provides amazing views of Lake Eildon, Cathedral Range, Mt Torbreck, Mt Buller and The Bluff.

This track is steep in sections and tracks can be muddy. A decent level of fitness is required so please keep that in mind when you RSVP and proper equipment ( esp.hikjng boots) essential.

Lunch afterwards at the Corner Hotel Alexandra.

Car parking is limited so car pooling is encouraged.
