This weekend we'll get back out there!!

An Erica weekend...

From the high peaks of the Baw Baw Plataeu to the rugged valley of the Thomson River and back to historic Walhalla, there's much to see and do...

Two amazing hikes are planned. On Saturday, we'll head up to Mt St Gwinear and hike 15km along the magnificent Baw Baw Plateau back to Mt Erica Carpark via Mushroom Rocks. Though not having the views of alpine tracks, the vegetation is very unique; diverse in sub-alpine flora and home to frostii the endangered frog. As we descend back to Mt Erica carpark, we stumble across Mushroom Rocks; some giant granite boulders that sort of grew out of the ground... This hike is rated as grade 4 due to length and descent.

Sunday's hike is shorter. Though in similar proximity gone are the snow gums and tall trees. A drier scrubby eucalypt bushland follows the rugged Thomson Valley... Poverty Point- maybe they found no gold here, or were maybe just hungry. Endeavours from the past have provided interesting tracks for us to hike. We'll come across a large steel bridge in the middle of the bush on this 6km circuit.

After we finish the morning's hike, we'll follow the jagged, winding road down to Walhalla where we'll have lunch and a bit of an explore. Too much to do in a day, but a walk through the town and up to the cricket ground and cemetery gives some perspective of this historically significant settlement.

Accommodation:
The Erica Caravan Park has cabins and camping facilities available, whist the nearby Erica Hotel has Motel accommodation. Participants are asked to organise their own accommodation for either one or two nights (fri/sat).

A more detailed itinerary will be provided closer to the event....
