    Clive has over 30 years of experience in a range of areas, such as mobile handsets, automotive, FPGA with Altera/Intel, Machine Learning at AWS and now leads the Software Development teams at IonQ in Oxford.

    Talk Title: Oxford Ionics and IonQ - the journey towards useful quantum computers

    IonQ purchased Oxford Ionics in September 2025, the first $1B acquisition of a Quantum computing firm. Clive will talk about why they saw such value in OI’s technology, what they are working on and how they believe they can scale Quantum computers to a commercial reality.

    Head of Engineering @ Caristo Diagnostics
    Head of Engineering at Oxford Medtech startup, Caristo Diagnostics. A chartered Engineer with 30 years of experience in software engineering, Neil started in maritime and aerospace real-time embedded systems before moving to healthcare. Has led software engineering teams in both large corporations and small companies, working across cardiology, molecular imaging and radiotherapy. Passionate in growing and leading software engineering teams in the development of cutting-edge medical software products.

Describing the work and technology at Oxford University spin-out Caristo Diagnostics, Neil will give an overview of the craft, challenges, and rewards of software engineering in the startup Medical Device world, and how AI can be used safely and effectively.
