What we’re about
Meet nearby board game players! Most of our meetups are centered in the Peninsula and South Bay, but we have events in other locations, too, so check out the list. We tend to play games like Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Puerto Rico, and others of that style. All ages and skills are welcome—the goal is to have fun. Have a game you want try, bring it along! Have an old favorite, but don't know anyone to play, bring it too!
Is there a type of game or group you're interested in, but don't see (family game day, old-style board games, chess/backgammon/go, party games, etc)? Send the organizers a message. Always willing to add more event organizers to host.

SCHEDULE UPDATE : See the Games Day Web page for an update about the schedule of our meetups through the rest of the spring and summer. Or better yet, get on the mailing list!
IMPORTANT : See the Games Day Web page for all the details about this event. I don't plan to announce every occurrence of Games Day on Meetup. So the best way to keep up with announcements about future meetings, or contact others to plan specific games to play, is to join the Games Day mailing list. You can join either by clicking the blue "Join This Group" button at the bottom of that Web page, or sending an email to gamesday+subscribe@groups.io

This daylong tabletop boardgaming meetup has been happening for over 25 years in the community room (Orchard Room) of the main branch of the Los Altos, CA library, in the South Bay near San Jose. We meet on the third Saturday of each month from 10 AM to 8 PM. Except we're meeting on the second Saturday, just in May.
Here are the UPDATED main rules and guidelines to keep in mind when you attend Games Day:
- Do not park next to the library. Instead, park in the lot south of the Community Center (which is southeast of the library), or in the lot next to City Hall (which is north of the library).
- When you come into the room, put a tally mark for each person in your group on the attendance sheet near the door.
- Masks are optional but do wear one if it makes you feel more comfortable in a large public group.
- You can bring and consume drinks and packaged food only (like bags of chips) in the room. Eat non-packaged food out in the lobby.
- Write the names of the games you play on the big whiteboard next to the room's entrance. But do check if your game has already been written down!
There have been some small updates over the past few years of other rules that come up less often, so please have another look at the rules for attendees of Games Day if you haven't attended for awhile.
We play mostly recent and classic Eurogames, the kind of games that are marked as hot or ranked high on BoardGameGeek. But we also play many other sorts of tabletop games, including family games, Ameritrash, and wargames. Here's a BGG geeklist of what got played at the April 2025 event. Attendance is around 30-50 people, so it's easy to find players for most kinds of games.
Although Games Day attendees are mostly hobbyist boardgamers, we do welcome newcomers to gaming, and families with kids.
