Santa Anita Photographers Day

Come and join hundreds of photographers on Friday January 10, 2014 at 7:30am at Santa Anita's Clocker’s Corner. This will be a one of a kind experience to shoot a historic sports palace and the spectacular horses that live there. Registration at Clocker’s Corner at 7:30 am Breakfast served at 10:00 am All for $20.00 (Ticket includes general admission, breakfast and press credentials for the day)

This will be a very crowded event, so I have scheduled for us to meet at 7:15 AM at Clocker's Corner. We will do the group photo at the Track. Due to the nature of the event it will be very difficult for us to stay together. We can therefore shoot in small groups.Whether you are a beginner or a professional, historic Santa Anita Park is hosting a one of a kind photography day.

We will shoot the morning workouts starting at 7:30 A.M.. This is a beautiful track with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background. There will be multiple tram tours to the barn area that will start at 8am. When workouts conclude, breakfast will be served at 10:00 AM followed by a Q & A with track photographers, trainers, jockeys and management. Each person will have insider access to the facility and be able to photograph the horses before the race. I am going to see if I can get us access to the barn area, I will let the people attending know if I can get this set up. Races will start at 1:00 P.M. and usually go until 5ish. Most people that are driving home to San Diego will leave after a couple of races.

Please Note: For those that would want to come up the day before at Noon on Thursday Jan 9th I can bring in a few photographers to Doug O'Neill's Barn at Santa Anita. Please email pamelainob@aol.com that you would like to join me. The Doug O'Neill Barn will be limited to a few photographers.

What to bring: Wide angle, medium and long zoom lenses. Walking shoes. It will most likely be cold in the early morning, you may want to layer. Hot coffee will be for sale at Clocker's Corner. I will be requesting everyone attending to email me their cell phone #.

Some people will drive up the morning of and may want to car pool due to the distance from San Diego. I will be going up the day before and staying at the Santa Anita Inn. (There are other hotels in the area) This one is right across the street from Santa Anita Race Track. Santa Anita Inn. I got a room King for $79.00 http://thesantaanitainn.com/

Also in the area is Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden that we could visit as a group or on your own. There are the Botanical Gardens, Santa Anita Train Depot, and Queen Anne’s Cottage. Lots to Photograph! Please let me know if you would be interested in the Arboretum (if enough interested I will add this as a meetup for Wednesday).
