This is a Non-Host Event. I have a training with a different program.
Many of you have been to the Train Museum and the Motor Transport Museum and had a good time. Now they do a little more for Campo Days.
During Camp Days, you sill step back in time and explore the wild west legends, rich history, and hidden gems of San Diego's East County. This FREE* two-day event unlocks the doors to four incredible museums, each offering a unique adventure:
This is happening on Saturday and Sunday.
- Motor Mania: Gear up for a journey through transportation history at the Motor Transport Museum. Housed in a former Feldspar Mill, this museum showcases a treasure trove of vintage vehicles, reflecting the area's rich mining heritage.
- Secrets of the Stone Store: Unearth the past at the Gaskill Brothers Stone Store. This historic hub, once a bustling center of commerce, travel, and ranching, unveils the region's captivating Indigenous, ranching, and military history.
- Chug Aboard History: Ride the rails at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum. Explore classic train exhibits, climb aboard for a vintage train excursion through our beautiful back country, and discover the fascinating story of regional railroads. (Train Ride is Not Free)
- Where Buffalo Soldiers Roamed: Saddle up and explore Camp Lockett Equestrian and Event Facility. Located on the grounds of a historic military outpost. Here you will see equestrian activities. Last time I was there, they were doing some barrel racing. This time there will be some goat roping, I believe, along with other activies. Buffalo Soldiers, the last mounted cavalry units trained in Southern California.
- Camp Lockett Museum: Camp Lockett was home to the 10th, 11th, and 28th Cavalries through World War II. The Buffalo Soldiers were busy guarding the southern border of the United States and prisoners of war from Italy. The Camp Lockett Museum exhibits authentic uniforms and equipment utilized by the soldiers garrisoned in Campo. Google says that this museum is .03 mile walk from the equestrian Center. I have never been there yet, so that I am sharing Googles info.
All this fun is within 3 miles :)
My recommendation is to go in this order, if you want to go to all of them, without backtracking: Motor Transport Museum, Stone Store, Train Museum and than Camp Locket. Leave comments so you guys can Meetup together.
Guest/family are okay for this event.
Hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes. They will have food at the various locations but you can pack your own food or drinks too.
