Street Photography: the 56th Chicano Park Day
Details
Join us for the 56th Chicano Park Day Commemoration! We will meet at 9:45 am in front of the Northgate Market located at:
1950 Main Street
San Diego, CA 92113
and we will take the group photo. From there, we will make our way to the Chicano Park for the event.
The event itself will be held on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 from 10am-5pm. The event honors the 1970 community activism that transformed the land into a community park instead of a California Highway Patrol station. It is a celebration of Chicano art, history, and the Kumeyaay culture.
This family event is always free and open to the public. Expect a day filled with culture, lowriders, live music, danza (Aztec dance, Ballet Folklorico), poetry, DJ's, food vendors, and more.
We will have opportunities to photograph the events of the day, attendees, vendors, some great lowriders, murals, etc. There should be a wide array of subjects to photograph. The murals and artwork symbolize the Mexican heritage and the Chicano movement.
Parking will likely be hard to find so I encourage you to carpool. There is free street parking all around, but you may have to park a few blocks away.
All lenses will work well. Bring your favorite depending on what you like to shoot: fixed 28mm, 35mm or 50mm, wide-angle, medium zoom lenses or a telephoto. Any and all will be fine.
