Street Photography: Ocean Beach Kite Festival

Join us for a colorful and relaxed morning of street photography at the annual Ocean Beach Kite Festival!

This longtime San Diego tradition fills the skies above Robb Field with giant kites, handmade creations, food, games and plenty of fun visual moments. Whether the festival turns out exactly as we imagine or something entirely different, it should make for a fun morning of photography and exploration together.

📍 Meeting Spot (9:30am)
We’ll meet at:
Ocean Beach Coffee and Plants
We’ll spend about 45 minutes easing into the morning with coffee, conversation, and some casual neighborhood shooting before heading over toward the festival grounds.

🚶 Plan
Around 10:15am, we’ll walk over to Robb Field together and should arrive around 10:30am as the festival gets going.
We’ll spend the rest of the morning exploring and photographing the festival at a relaxed pace.

🎒 What to Bring
Bring your favorite street photography setup.
A 28mm, 35mm, or 50mm prime would work great, though a medium or long zoom could also be useful for capturing kites and beach scenes.
Don’t forget:

• Sunscreen
• Hat/sunglasses
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Water

🚗 Parking
Parking in Ocean Beach can be challenging on weekends and during festivals, so plan to arrive a little early and allow extra time.
Street parking is available throughout the neighborhood, but you may need to walk a few blocks.
