Richard Powers teaches a special class with Rocky Aikens from 7:15 to 9 pm.
Rocky has partnered every Romany Polka class for the past eight years!

Many have requested a complete teaching of Romany Polka. And if you've done it in the past, you will want a review to make it solid! If you saw it at FNW, the Stanford Viennese Ball, or one of 248 YouTube videos, you'll want to dance it yourself. Here is your chance!

Watch a video here. It's sixteen brief clips of Romany Polka danced in the U.S., France, Italy, Russia and South Korea. It's a short dance, less than two minutes long.

This is not a beginner's class. All of the steps will be taught from the beginning (if you come at 7:15 for the basic polka), but you'll need to already have some partnered dance experience, or are a quick learner at dance.

We will have a separate Beginners Waltz Class in the Rainbow Room from 7:15 to 9:00. It's a great dance class for beginners! Drop ins are welcome.

7:15pm - Welcome to the Polka! This happy bouncy dance has endured for generations, and has never died out. You can't be in a bad mood when you polka. Come zoom around the floor with us!

7:30pm - Romany Polka! This is a vintage dance like the Bohemian National Polka and Congress of Vienna, but while the BNP is slow and stately, this is lively. It's also shorter, and has great music!

As you can see in the video, it is a five-part choreography, where each part builds upon the previous steps. Students in the class hate it when they have to dance with someone who came to the class late, and doesn't know the first parts of the choreography, so please don't join the class after 7:45pm, unless you already know Romany Polka, and wish to assist those learning it for the first time. But arriving late after missing 30 minutes will still be hard, so the first advice is best: be there at the beginning of the class, at 7:15 pm, or 7:30 if you already polka, ready for a fun challenge!

9:00 pm - Dance Party will feature some of Richard's favorite dance music plus some premieres. Waltz, swing, tango, cross-step waltz, bachata, West Coast Swing, cha cha, BNP, salsa, Tokyo Polka, Lindy, NC2S, Romany Polka, hustle, Shim Sham, and more!
