About us
Welcome to Panther City Page Turners
Panther City Page Turners is a Fort Worth book club for adults who enjoy reading, conversation, and community.
Named after Fort Worth's iconic "Panther City" nickname, our name reflects a story of resilience and civic pride. The nickname dates back to 1875, when a Dallas newspaper mocked Fort Worth as being so quiet that a panther could sleep undisturbed in the middle of downtown. Rather than taking offense, Fort Worth embraced the story, turning the panther into a lasting symbol of the city's identity.
Founded in 2013 as Funky Town's Page Turners by Kaity Stone, the group spent more than a decade bringing Fort Worth readers together to discuss books, share ideas, and build friendships. In 2026, under new leadership, the group was renamed Panther City Page Turners while continuing the tradition that so many members helped create - special thanks to Kaity and core members Patrick, Emily, Sarah, and Ashlee, whose time and dedication helped build and sustain this community over the years.
Our primary goal is to hold one book discussion each month, while also hosting occasional short-story gatherings throughout the year. This flexible format allows us to enjoy both longer works and shorter reads while accommodating a variety of schedules and interests.
Our selections include both fiction and nonfiction, and we believe great conversations can come from a wide variety of genres, authors, topics, and perspectives.
Beyond reading, we're also about community. Meetings may take place at local coffee shops, restaurants, bars, libraries, or other gathering places throughout Fort Worth. Whether you're a lifelong reader or simply looking to meet new people, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful discussion, and an opportunity to connect with fellow book lovers.
Our Goals
- Read interesting books and stories
- Have thoughtful and respectful discussions
- Meet new people and build friendships
- Explore local Fort Worth venues
- Build a community of curious and engaged readers
How We Choose Books
We believe the people who participate in the club should help shape what we read.
We're currently piloting a system in which attending a book discussion earns you a place in the queue to become a future book sponsor. When it's your turn, you'll nominate two books, and members who attended the previous meeting will vote on the selection. Book sponsors also help lead the discussion, and meeting dates are scheduled to accommodate their availability.
As the club grows, we'll continue refining the process collaboratively with active members to keep it fair, engaging, and sustainable.
For occasional short-story gatherings, the selection process may be more flexible and may involve attendee suggestions, organizer selections, or informal voting.
We look forward to turning pages, sharing ideas, and building community together.
Good Stories Bring Us Together.
