Fingerboard Shelter – July 18th
The History
Fingerboard, is a squat stone shelter, built in 1928 entirely on a rock ledge. It is equipped with 2 fireplaces on each side wall and sleeps roughly 8 people. The shelter faces east toward a wooded valley and Lake Tiorati, with wide grassy areas surrounding. There is an active spring at Fingerboard, right below the shelter as you face out. If dry, keep walking down the streambed for this spring before going all the way to the lake for water. It usually reemerges further down.
Starting from Lake Tiorati, follow the Lake Tiorati Trail (blue blaze) that parallels a paved road (or just follow the road), and then get onto that paved road and follow it until the Long Path (green blaze) appears on the left. Take the Long Path until a junction with the Appalachian Trail, we’ll be on the AT on this one for the duration of the hike. We’ll get to the Fingerboard Shelter 1.5 miles up the trail. We’ll hang here have a snack/lunch then head back down the way we came in.
