March Meetup - The Brown Mountain Lights

We will meet in the parking lot at Wiseman’s view overlook just outside of Morganton. This would be along highway 181.

 Meet in the parking lot. There is a long gravel road from the main paved road to the Wiseman’s view parking lot
use caution on this road watch out for potholes. The main thing is keep moving! Don’t stop and get caught in any loose gravel and get stuck we do not know the condition of the road. No one‘s been up there recently

This event will be held weather permitting Obviously, if it is raining in the mountains, we would have to cancel this event

For this investigation, I would suggest bringing flashlight binoculars night vision binoculars night, vision goggles. If you are have telephoto lens for your camera might want to bring a tripod and try to capture some photos that way

There is also an overlook along highway 181 actually called the Brown Mountain overlook however we have not been as successful at this one 

. also, you may or may not have cell service we are in the mountains. For this investigation, I would suggest binoculars night vision goggles night vision, binoculars, telescopes things of that nature from Wiseman view looking across the valley to where you see the lights is approximately 2 miles. It’s not like you can wave a K2 in front of them lol

Need to wear comfortable walking shoes there is a paved path from the parking lot to the overview area. Once you get to that overview area there are steep steps down to it just use caution it will be dark.
