What we’re about
PatrasTechTalk is a group for those interested in IT, digital transformation, and innovative applications!
We meet once a month (almost :) in-person. The events comprise a featured talk or tutorial/workshop to learn or better understand something new and bootstrap discussions and networking afterwards.
Join the group to receive notifications about upcoming events, get to know new like-minded people, and shape the agenda of an upcoming event.
Participation is free of charge for everyone. The group is not affiliated with an organization or company.
A warm welcome from the West Coast of Greece!

Patras Tech Talk 2026.01 [Happy New Year]
Welcome to 2026 with a new Patras Tech Talk meetup!
Join us on Tuesday after work or classes for icebreaker presentations, discussion, and interaction with the tech community of Patras!
A declarative Linux distro (NixOS), a self-hosted cloud (Nextcloud), and a P2P networking tool (Holesail) walked into a bar ... What was missing? The case of course! What do they have in common? A polyamorous relationship that leads to this project.
- NixOS makes everything declarative. Its most powerful aspect: One configuration file to describe the whole system. For real...
- Nextcloud is the powerful opensource cloud platform that you can self-host.
- Holesail is a revolutionary tool to connect p2p to anything. No firewall configuration, no port forwarding.
In the first talk, Vaios Karastathis will show (briefly) each one of these tools and how they are combined to turn that external USB drive in the drawer to a personal cloud storage that your mother can use. We will try it, and of course we will see the prototype of the case that was missing.
In the second talk, Ioannis Skitsas takes the floor to explore how we visualize and document architectural choices in software development. Which matters more: The diagrams that show system structure or the decisions behind them?
We will discover the "diagram as code" approach, treating architecture diagrams like version-controlled code instead of static images. The talk also covers Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), a lightweight method for capturing the context, consequences, and rationale behind significant architectural choices.
Agenda:
18:00 Doors open
18:00-18:15 Meet and greet
18:15-18:30 Introductions by all
18:30-19:10 Presentation: NixtCloud by Vaios Karastathis
19:15-19:50 Presentation: Diagram as Code and ADRs: Documenting the 'What' and 'Why' by Ioannis Skitsas
19:50-20:50 Networking and more
20:50-21:00 Farewell
21:00 Doors close
The event is kindly hosted by PwC Technology and Innovation Hub Patras.
Attention: Please, RSVP on time and free your spot if you cannot make it as seats are limited!
