Tier1: Fancy picnic on island from Cedaroak boat launch

Details
8/14 UPDATE: Looks like the weather is not going to be super hot and sunny.
It might rain a bit. I am saying lets do it. The way the forecast is looking is we might have a small occasional rain.
On the positive side: it's supposed to be pretty warm, the rain is most likely to be really sparse, the boat ramp is not going to be super busy, we have a little structure to put over the food table and we wont be too hot.
So I say we are on!
Fancy picnic has been our premiere annual event and usually the event that draws the most people together.
The idea is simple: We gather, paddle to an island and we have a picnic, but not just any picnic, we have a Fancy Picnic - using proper plates and silverware (provided by Jack), we put in the effort into making our favorite signature dishes and the aesthetic presentation.
You are invited to make to make and bring dishes you are most proud of, perhaps something that honors your roots and has stories behind it.
Homemade dishes are highly encouraged.
But also don't bring too much food. It's likely to be hot and whatever does not get eaten might spoil.
There might be time for swimming and frolicking.
You are encouraged to dress up. Fancy it up any way you can think of/are willing to: think Burning Man or 19th century outfit or Black dress gala.
The Location: The same spot as last time (and pre-pandemic times)
Lets try to get there all from Cedaroak boat ramp. It will be a bit crammed, but shall be fun. Expect to need to drop off yours stuff on the triangle lawn by the dock and park your car out on the street (2 min walk) as parking is most likely insufficient.
What to bring:
- A kayak/vessel, PFD and all that's needed to paddle
- A homemade dish to share, ideally in a nice container and a serving utensil
- Water/drinks (ideally with resealable lids)/cup
- Bathing suit?
- A towel
- A blanket/cover to sit on (optional, we'll probably have more than enough)
- A folding table? (we can usually use those. If you have a good one might be useful)
- entertainment supplies (musical instruments, water guns, games, inflatable floaties, anything you can think of)
If you need a spot in a kayak - message Jack or post a comment. I have a free spot as of writing of this. Feel free to message with any questions or suggestions as well.
Fund raising:
Historically this event has been great to help us get more padded before the winter for the running of this group.
This year we are experiencing less financial security that we are used to for the first time due to Meetup fees having been almost doubled overnight.
Your donations also support existence of another kayaking group. All of the donations go towards running of the group, all organizers are unpaid volunteers.
If you feel like contributing - bring cash or make a donation by Venmo. We suggest a $10 contribution.
