Women Who Walk is a monthly 4-8 mile walkabout in and around Portland, Oregon. Each walk is carefully planned (complete with blog post, map, and photo gallery) to showcase a neighborhood, park, garden, or other uniquely wonderful aspects of this great city of ours.

Walking Portland: NW River District, Slabtown & Northwest District

DESCRIPTION: This 6.5-mile Walking Portland loop features four distinct NW Portland neighborhoods—Pearl District, Northwest River District, Slabtown, and Northwest District (Nob Hill).

DISTANCE: 6.5 miles. PLEASE be sure that you are physically able to walk this distance at a moderately fast clip (30-minute mile).

PARKING: Allow plenty of time to scout 4-hour parking on nearby neighborhood streets or opt for $2 per hour parking at nearby Station Place Parking Garage (7418 NW Station Way, Portland, OR).

LAUNCH TIME: Please arrive by 9:45 a.m. for sign-in and intros. We'll head out at 10:00 a.m. sharp.

ATTIRE: Sturdy walking/running shoes, compact umbrella, and layered clothing appropriate for the weather. Plus, anything else you need to survive 2-3 hours stomping city sidewalks and reasonably well-maintained trails (water, energy bar, chapstick, lightweight backpack, adventurous spirit, great sense of humor etc.).

FITNESS LEVEL: Expect a moderate 3-mile-an-hour (20-minute mile) pace for this mostly flat sidewalk and boardwalk trek.

GUESTS: Yes, of course, you may bring a guest. However, all participants must be registered. Thank you!

LIABILITY WAIVER: I'm not a professional walking guide or fitness professional. Although most of this walk is on city sidewalks, Portland sidewalks can be broken and uneven in places. Appropriate walking shoes and caution are always advised. By attending this Women Who Walk event, you assume all risks and liabilities. Walking Downtown Beaverton: Oldtown Walk & Gawk

DESCRIPTION: Coming soon. (Registration opens on January 19th.)

NOTE: This is an easy, flat, winter Walk & Gawk (Support Local!). We’ll walk Beaverton's historic downtown for 2-3 miles (route under construction), with coffee break at Ava Roasteria. (To extend the day, grab a walk buddy and head over to nearby Afuri Izakaya for some of the best ramen anywhere in Portland Metro. Great setting. Great food. Highly recommend.)

LAUNCH TIME: Please arrive by 9:30 a.m. for sign-in and intros. We'll head out at 10:00 a.m. sharp.

PARKING: Free parking lot across from downtown Beaverton City Library.

DRIVE DISTANCE: 8 miles from downtown Portland to downtown Beaverton.

WALK DISTANCE: 2-3 miles, plus meandering/ogling wall art, parks, and vintage shops.

Walking Portland: SE Laurelhurst, Sunnyside, Richmond & Kerns

REGISTRATION: Opens 4 weeks prior to event. (Moving this fabulous walk forward and will continue to review conditions in this neighborhood--especially around the park--in coming months. Currently heavily encamped with reported violence.)

DESCRIPTION: This is the perfect spring walk--through four iconic SE neighborhoods: Laurelhurst, Sunnyside, Richmond, and Buckman. With optional connectors to three of Portland's coolest shopping/noshing streets: Belmont, Clinton, Division and Hawthorne. Plus Laurelhurst, Sewallcrest and Colonel Summers parks along the route. And if we get lucky, the ducklings will have hatched.

DISTANCE: 6-7 miles.
