Javelina: VERY Old-Time Local Cuisine
Details
Javelina was originally a pop-up, but opened its Cully location early last year. Owned and operated by chef Alexa Numkena-Anderson, a member of the Hopi tribe, this delightful site offers indigenous cuisine highlighting blue corn, duck eggs, local game, vegetables, mushrooms, as well as some post-colonial staples like frybread, strong coffee and adult drinks.
It was one of the restaurants featured in the Portland Dining Month event. I went there recently for a small group dinner at the invite of some lovely friends and it was awesome. However, Javelina also does a weekend brunch that's also awesome!
Please note this is not our usual day and time. It's next month, Saturday APRIL 25th at 10am.
We're going easy on the busy staff, so there will be only one check for our group of PDXBCers. I'll get the check, so plan to either bring cash or you can venmo/paypal me at the event. There's a mandatory 22% tip for a big group plus a $2 per person fee to support staff healthcare. So -- fair warning -- there will be math! Bring your phone to help you with all the calculating.
So let's respectively go native.
