Peak District Peaks by Prominence - No 19 Wolfscote Hill

Details
Ethel Haythornthwaite was a determined and skilled advocate for the creation of a Peak District National Park in the 1930’s and 1940’s such that it may never have happened without her.
During COVID lockdowns, a local Sheffield man had the idea of recognising this by creating a new classification of Peak District hills equivalent to Scotland's Munro's or the Lake Districts Wainwrights which he called Ethels. These are designated by height and prominence with just 20 having a prominence of 100m or more.
This series of walks aim to visit all of these over the coming months starting with the smallest but in such a way that will make them accessible and enjoyable to all.
Starting our walk in Hartington we amble through in lovely Beresford Dale before diverting towards Wolfscote Hill which is on open access land and owned by the National Trust although the rules about access are not entirely clear. The hill summit sits on top of a burial mound where the skeletons of two children were found when excavated in the 19th Century. Having bagged our Ethel we retrace our steps and continue along Beresford Dale, Wolfscote Dale and then Biggin Dale to Dale End which leads us to Highfield Lane (track) and the route back to the start.
Do bring plenty of snacks and drinks and a lunch packup as unlikely we shall find somewhere for these on our route.
Please take LOTS of pictures and upload them to this Meetup page so everyone can see how much fun you had.
Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be put on a lead near to livestock and should not bark or jump up incessantly.
