Ethel Haythornthwaite was a determined and skilled advocate for the creation of a Peak District National Park in the 1930’s and 1940’s such that it may never have happened without her.

During COVID lockdowns, a local Sheffield man had the idea of recognising this by creating a new classification of Peak District hills equivalent to Scotland's Munro's or the Lake Districts Wainwrights which he called Ethels. These are designated by height and prominence with just 20 having a prominence of 100m or more.

This series of walks aim to visit all of these over the coming months starting with the smallest but in such a way that will make them accessible and enjoyable to all.

Having reviewed our recent Ethels walks I realised we had left one out which should have been No 20 pushing all the others we have done up by one. We are correcting this now with a lovely walk of just over 8 miles with the possibility of a pub stop mid way if wanted by the group taking part. Hoping for a less bleak day than when we visited the spot a few years ago as in the picture above. Our next Ethel walk following will then be No 13.

Do bring plenty of snacks and drinks and a lunch packup as unlikely we shall find somewhere for these on our route.

Please take LOTS of pictures and upload them to this Meetup page so everyone can see how much fun you had.

Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be put on a lead near to livestock and should not bark or jump up incessantly.
