Peak District C2C Bike Ride - Peak District Section
Details
Some years ago I had the notion that there ought to be a Peak District Coast to Coast Walking Route. Not on the Coast - that's not the point. There wasn't one, so I created it from Prestatyn on the Welsh Coast to Skegness on the East Coast and a very lovely route it is too. Great launch in the pouring rain with the Mayor of Prestatyn. It didn't set the world alight but at least I tried.
Same with bike rides. Having in recent years with the group done the South West C2C, Hadrians Wall C2C, Way of the Roses C2C and Cumbria C2C why not a Peak District route which is what I have done. This time all the way from Anglesey in the West to Skegness in the East. Quite a route!
BUT!
As each journey begins with the first step we thought for our first step on this awesome route we'd start in the middle i.e. the section that goes through the Peak District itself and then hopefully once we have done that once or twice we'll have generated some interest in doing the whole thing which will take about a week of cycling in all.
The section we will do on this day starts in Waterhouses and includes pretty much all of the Manifold Valley Way, some quiet roads to take us towards Buxton and then sections of the Pennine Bridleway to take us eventually to Ringinglow on the outskirts of Sheffield, around 50 miles in all.
Linear rides always involve some logistics to ensure vehicles and bikes are in the right place so on this occasion we'll meet at Ringinglow outside the Norfolk Arms S11 7TS where we will work out how to get all the people and bikes to the start at Waterhouses with the minimum of effort. The aim is to leave most of the vehicles at Ringinglow so they are there when we finish.
You must wear a helmet on all group bike rides and don't forget waterproofs, fluids, snacks and lunch packup.
Please be prompt so as not to delay the ride for everyone.
