Peak District Peaks by Prominence - No 6 Win Hill
Details
Ethel Haythornthwaite was a determined and skilled advocate for the creation of a Peak District National Park in the 1930’s and 1940’s such that it may never have happened without her.
During COVID lockdowns, a local Sheffield man had the idea of recognising this by creating a new classification of Peak District hills equivalent to Scotland's Munro's or the Lake Districts Wainwrights which he called Ethels. These are designated by height and prominence with just 20 having a prominence of 100m or more.
This series of walks aim to visit all of these over the coming months starting with the smallest but in such a way that will make them accessible and enjoyable to all.
Win Hill our No 6 Ethel in Prominence and others in the Top 5 are all very recognisable hills in overall height as well although on height Win Hill is only rated 44th! Our walk is from the Yorkshire Bridge Inn which is a very fine place to finish too. Our walk takes us to Thornhill, Shatton, Brough, and Aston before we bag our Ethel and head back to the start.
Do bring plenty of snacks and drinks and a lunch packup as unlikely we shall find somewhere for these on our route.
Please take LOTS of pictures and upload them to this Meetup page so everyone can see how much fun you had.
Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be put on a lead near to livestock and should not bark or jump up incessantly.
