Everyone is welcome to join our group free of charge allowing members 3 free months for you to take part in our day walks. If you decide Peaks & Trails Hiking Group is for you, we as a subscription based group do make a nominal charge of £8.00 per year, this will entitle you to have full access to all published events, that includes weekends away, and other breaks nationally and internationally but it does exclude the cost of accommodation. and travel expenses.
The Disclaimer!
We are a group of like-minded adults who share the same interest, the great outdoors.
This a a guide to what we do and what we expect from our members.
Our leaders/event hosts are volunteers, they're there to guide groups on walks in the countryside, they're not responsible for each and every participant other than themselves.
It is expected that all participants to be fully responsible for themselves and their own safety, we do not employ first aiders or qualified walk leaders. Participants are also expected to attend every walk with suitable clothing, footwear and any other equipment, that includes waterproofs for wet weather and walking poles if you need them regularly. Enough food and drink for the day is also required.
Some activities in more mountainous regions such as the Lake District, Wales and Scotland, can be more challenging, our walk leaders will use the principal of the groups safety at all times and if the conditions dramatically change for the worse, they will reserve the right to end the walk and turn back. A full and concise descriptions of the terrain will be published in the event write up stating what to expect on the walk, terrain using the best of our knowledge. Also to give our members an insight of what to bring such as walking poles, crampons and wet weather gear.
If for any reason you are concerned about the potential risks of our activities whilst out with the group you could consider taking out a personal insurance plan, e.g. The BMC (British Mountaineering Council)
They offer a yearly membership through direct debit. So for an individual it's £40.11 a year. They have their own benefits of 15% discount in Cotswold Outdoor, Snow and Rock as well as Runners Needs store.
As the main organisers we are also members of the BMC and would recommend it to any of our members who walk the hills on a regular basis.
When you RSVP you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of this disclaimer.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Please remember, we're here to have fun and socialise!

Ben Lomond & Ben More Walking Weekend
Location not specified yetThis will be our second trip to Scotland in 2026, it will be a more tougher one, unlike our Great Glen Way but a great one.
We're aiming to drive up on the 24th of September (Thursday) Walk Friday, Saturday & Sunday. And then drive home on the Monday (28th)
I've booked into Rowardennan Hostel for two nights, Thursday & Friday. And then the other two nights at the hostel in Crianlarich. Links to these hostel will be posted here.
Itinerary for our trip..
Friday we will be climbing up onto Ben Lomond.
Saturday we will then drive to Crianlarich to do a lower level walk.
Sunday Ben More
Monday Drive home.
Ben Lomond is one of the most popular Munros, rewarding the 30,000 people who make it to the top with truly fantastic views of the length of Loch Lomond and its islands. The view to the north reveals range beyond range of mountains into the Highlands. The path up is well made, but the optional return down the Ptarmigan ridge is steep and rocky, and muddy lower down.
## Terrain
Clear path with some rocky sections, most especially on the alternative, rougher return route. As with all mountain walks, full hillwalking clothing and equipment must be carried. If there is snow on the route this includes an ice-axe and crampons.
Distance12km / 7.5 miles Time (summer conditions)4.5 - 5.5 hours Ascent 990mStart Grid Ref NS359986
Ben More
Ben More dominates Crianlarich and the road east, an enormous green pyramid offering no obvious easy approaches; the ascent is unrelenting. Its near neighbour Stob Binnein is often regarded as its twin, but this more retiring summit is actually the finer of the two peaks, a graceful cone above its supporting ridges.
Very steep ascent and descent for almost all the walk. There are pathless sections with boggy ground, and some dangerous terrain if the route is lost. Higher up the ridges are broad with one avoidable scramble on Ben More.

These mountains are beautiful but must be respected, as a group, no matter how big or small it is vitally important to stay together as a group at all times.
There will be an alternative walk for those who prefer not to do one or both Munros.
Please read and adhere to our disclaimer, you are responsible for yourselves at all times, and if you wish to get insurance cover for mountain walks, British Mountaineering Council run a yearly one for around £40.00. This will also cover you in Europe.
