Mam Tor is a popular hill at the weekends drawing in people from all over. At a majestic hilltop fort stands at a height of 517m. is in the top twenty highest hills in the Peak District.
Our walk starts in the pretty village of Castleton known for it's caverns and caves.
After leaving the tourist information car park, we will head up towards "The road that slid away"... Until the 1970's you could drive on the A625 across the Peak District but due to a massive landslide in 1974 caused a large portion of Mam Tor to collapse thus leaving the road dangerous to drive on.
We will head up onto Mam Tor where we will have panoramic views across towards Kinder Scout to the left over the Vale of Edale and to your right scenic views of the Hope Valley.
Heading towards Back Tor and onto Losehill, this is the last incline of the day before we head down into Hope for refreshments in one of the cafes.
On the last stage of our walk we will follow the river back into Castleton for after walk drinks
This walk is around 10 miles, Please bring plenty of fluids packed lunch and appropriate walking attire.
You as a attendee is responsible for yourself and your well being on all walks with our group.
Car sharing is a good idea as Castleton is a very popular place and parking can be sparse.
