Details

This circular walk from the historical village of Hathersage. It will take you to some of the places that inspired Charlotte Bronte in her novel, Jane Eyre which include North Lees House and Stanage Edge.

We will be passing by some of the buildings that were also an inspiration in her novel, before climbing up to Stanage Edge, which is where they filmed part of the BBC's Jane Eyre adaptation with Ruth Wilson.

This circular 8 mile walk is easy underfoot initially with some steep ascents and descents. Valley fields, high moorland paths, grit stone paths, rocky outcrops and woodland paths.

We will make our way from the train station and head into Hathersage main village centre, walking towards Baulk Lane taking the footpath passing Brookfield Manor, which features as Vale Hall in the novel. Continuing on towards North Lees Hall (Thornfield in the novel) and then onto Stanage itself. Where you can see right across the Hope Valley with far reaching views.
