Boundaries: The Practice of Staying Connected to Yourself and Others: A Psychoeducational and Experiential Workshop on Recognizing, Communicating, and Embodying Healthy Limits
Boundaries are more than learning how to say “no.” They are an ongoing practice of understanding ourselves, recognizing our needs and limits, communicating them clearly, and staying connected to ourselves while in relationship with others.
In this two-hour psychoeducational and experiential workshop, we'll explore what boundaries are, why they can be difficult to establish, common emotional and nervous system responses, and practical ways to communicate and embody healthy limits.
Rather than focusing only on information or “the right way” to set a boundary, we'll create space to notice what happens within us when we encounter a limit—our thoughts, emotions, body sensations, impulses, and familiar patterns.
We'll explore how our experiences, relationships, internal voices or parts, nervous system responses, and personal stories can shape the way we understand and practice boundaries. Through reflection, conversation, mindfulness, somatic exploration, and practical exercises, participants will have opportunities to develop greater awareness and self-trust.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Explore their own beliefs and experiences around boundaries
- Notice internal, emotional, and somatic signals related to needs and limits
- Understand common reactions such as guilt, anxiety, resentment, and fear of conflict
- Explore what makes it easier or harder to communicate a boundary
- Practice staying connected to themselves while navigating relationships
- Consider the stories they carry about being “good,” helpful, available, or responsible for others
- Develop language and approaches for communicating boundaries with greater clarity
- Engage in individual reflection and group exploration
- Take home educational handouts and journaling prompts for continued exploration
This workshop is designed as a space for curiosity rather than perfection. You don't need to have your boundaries figured out before you arrive. The intention is to learn, notice, experiment, and discover what healthy boundaries can look and feel like for you.
