Come on out for a new topic each week. Meet Amie, smile, laugh, chat, and enjoy the ambiance of this warm coffee shop together. This week's topic is: Shibboleths and Spoonerisms.

Here are the questions we will be discussing:

  • What are some slang words that younger generations use that you don't understand?
  • What are some shibboleths (iconic slang words, references, or particular pronunciation) are you aware of for yourself that reveals where and when you're from?
  • What are some slang words from the older generation that you feel is outdated and why? What do you use instead?
  • What are words or phrases that you know that are commonly misused or misquoted?
  • Do you enjoy using a particular type of vocabulary to emphasize a trait about yourself, like to show how smart or cool you are?
  • What do you do in a situation when you can't remember a word or when you don't know what to say?
  • What kinds of ways do you communicate with people non-verbally?
  • What are your thoughts on telepathy?
  • How often do spoonerisms happen for you? Can you share a funny time when you mixed your words like saying "chilled grease" when you meant "grilled cheese"?

Join us in this safe, inclusive, casual, and accepting environment where dialogue is encouraged over debate as each person has opportunity to share from their own diverse perspectives and experiences.

Folks in this group enjoy going beyond small talk, reflecting both inward and outward, helping build pathways for more peace and understanding in the world... and your voice matters!

No particular set of beliefs (or creed) is required to be a part of this community-building activity. Diverse perspectives are welcome.

Whether to discover yourself amidst a community on a common journey or to find meaning among new friends, there is room at the table for you.
