About us
Perth Film Lovers is a film club for those who not only love watching movies but love breaking them down with others. It's about sharing the buzz from movies we've enjoyed and discovering what we may've missed in the ones we haven’t.
Outside of the occasional blockbuster at the theatres, movies are periodically posted for members to stream at their leisure. We then all meet at a cosy locale in town to discuss them over dinner and drinks. Are we easy or hard to please? We rate each film and compare ourselves to IMDB to find out.
It’s an open crew and movies are of all genres, new and old, popular and obscure, so people are welcome to join in on as many or as few chats as they like. Stick to what appeals or explore something new, it's completely up to you.
Films to watch and details of their meetings for discussion are posted below. All you need to bring is your love for movies and ability to chat... and don't worry you won't find yourself in a fist fight for having a differing opinion, we're a passive lot who adhere to the rules in the link below.
For those who can’t make meetings, the opportunity is still there to watch the movies and message through scores. Many do so as it not only a great way to stay connected but watch some excellent movies for free.

Isle of Dogs
Johnny Fox’s, 205 James Street, Northbridge, Perth, AUFilm
The first movie chosen at random from those suggested by members is Isle of Dogs (2018) which was suggested by Leah. I haven't seen it but recall it being very well regarded when it came out.
It's an all star cast with Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, Liev Schrieber, Anjelina Huston, and Bob Balaban. It's directed by Wes Anderson who directed the Royal Tenenbaums and Fantastic Mr Fox, which we'll be watching soon.
It's currently streaming on Disney+ and Binge. For those who don't subscribe to either, I've purchased a copy which can be viewed following the links below.

As always, I’ll be getting to Johnny Fox's just before 6:00pm to sort out my food and drink and welcome everyone who wishes to do the same. For those who do, it's a great way to get to know other members and share what other movies are being watched.
I'll look to give a brief introduction at around 6:30pm after which we'll start discussions on the movie in small groups. Conduct to keep in mind during the discussions, and thought pieces to consider in advance of them, are in the links below.
Discussion Rules
Discussion PointsAround 8:30pm we'll rejoin as a group to share each table's average score out of 10 and have people share their eye openings with the aim of being finished by 9:00pm.
We’ll have the room till 10:00pm and the venue closes at 1:00am so there'll be plenty of time to continue socialising for those who wish to. I usually have a sit down drink at the end and am happy to be joined for it. 🥃
Postal Scores
For those who can’t make the meeting, I encourage you to still watch the movie if you can and message me your score as many are now doing. If you toss in a few comments, I'll toss a few back. 🧐😁 It’s a great way to not only stay connected but watch some excellent movies for free.
All Scores
Given we're comparing our scores to those on IMDB, please try to avoid looking at them before landing on yours so as not to be biased. Also, if you’ve seen the movie before, please rewatch it as memories are unreliable and opinions change.
The group’s score compared to that on IMDB (as well as anything interesting I notice in determining it) will be posted in the discussion section of the group's home page the day after the meeting.
Final Words
Following the fun we've had so far, I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting those who I haven’t already. 👋

The Father
Johnny Fox’s, 205 James Street, Northbridge, Perth, AUFilm
The Father (2020) was the 2nd most popular movie on our voted upon watch list.
Starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, it's a French–British co-production that was nominated for 6 Oscars and won 2 including Best Actor for Hopkins.🏆🏆 Since then, it's been cited as one of the best films of the 2020s.
It's currently streaming for free on SBS On Demand. 🙌

Safety Not Guaranteed
Johnny Fox’s, 205 James Street, Northbridge, Perth, AUFilm
The second movie from those suggested by members is Safety Not Guaranteed (2012) which was put forward by Clark.
Given the previous week's film is quite heavy, I'm hoping this science fiction comedy staring Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Jake Johnson provides us some light hearted relief. It's the directorial debut of Colin Trevorrow who went on to co-write the 3 Jurassic World films and direct 2 of them.
It's currently only streaming on Prime. For those who don't subscribe to Prime, I've purchased a copy which can be viewed following the links below.
