There's an art exhibition opening at Alliance Francaise in Nedlands next Friday.

We've attended events at Alliance Française before; they are always well-organised and an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in French culture and language.

Yren is a street artist from Réunion Island, best known for his large-scale murals. He also works on canvas and runs workshops for both children and adults.

After transforming the urban landscapes of Réunion, Yren took his artistic journey overseas: to France, including Street Art City, where he created room 126 at Hôtel 128; to Australia, with Plein Air Project, leaving his mark in Perth and Fremantle; and to Madagascar with the Veztige Project of the Alliance Française in Toliara.

His work is defined by a refined style of bold colour blocks, soft geometric shapes, and luminous gradients. Blending simplicity with depth, Yren aims to evoke universal emotions and bring poetry and humanity into public spaces.

This new series, dedicated to the animals of Western Australia, was created exclusively for the Alliance Française de Perth. Yren offers a unique journey: portraits of iconic animals painted onto authentic nautical charts, where each creature naturally finds its place within the territory shown.

Balancing geography, history and imagination, these works explore the memory of place and reveal the fragile coexistence between living beings and the environments continually reshaped by humans. Through this dialogue between map and animal, the artist highlights the original beauty of ecosystems while inviting us to reflect on humanity’s impact on their evolution and preservation.

A committed artist, Yren sees his art as a universal language, combining aesthetics, symbolism and message, leaving a lasting and inspiring impression.
