Designed to Withstand – Part 3: Strength Beyond Ourselves
Jack Healey Center- Meeting room, 21 Mead st near the Dome Cafe, Kalamunda, Perth, AUExplore Faith Series – Strength Beyond Ourselves | God's power for hard circumstances and difficult people (Colossians 1:11). Saturday, 19 September | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Jack Healey Centre, Kalamunda
Sometimes the hardest test is not only what has happened. It is how long the situation continues, how tired we have become, or how patiently we must respond to someone while carrying our own pressure.
In Part 3 of Designed to Withstand, Paul's prayer points us beyond self-reliance: “Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy.” God does not ask us to manufacture unlimited strength. He supplies power that is greater than our natural capacity.
Colossians 1:11 shows how that power works in everyday life. Endurance helps us keep moving toward the goal despite difficult circumstances. Patience, or longsuffering, helps us remain gracious and steady with difficult people. We need God's help for both: to keep moving without giving up and to keep loving without becoming harsh.
Then Paul adds the unexpected words “with joy.” This is not a demand for a cheerful performance or a denial of pain. It is the deeper assurance that God is present, His power is active, and our lives still have meaning under pressure. Joy can remain because it is rooted in Christ, not in the ease of the moment.
💡 What you’ll gain:
- Clarity about the different strengths needed for difficult circumstances and difficult people
- A way to move from exhausted self-reliance towards prayerful dependence on God's power
- A healthier understanding of joy as spiritual steadiness, gratitude and hope rather than denial
Come and pause from the pressure of the week through worship, practical teaching and prayer. Stay for a light meal and unhurried fellowship in a warm, welcoming community.
