Details

Having inspired world leaders, spiritual seekers, and many people throughout the ages, the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius is a book of immense historical and philosophical significance. Through a series of readings and discussions our group will explore Marcus’ timeless wisdom chapter by chapter. For this group, we will use Meditations: The Annotated Edition by Robin Waterfield, described by Yale philosophy professor Brad Inward as “A splendid translation… The notes and introduction are detailed but clear and authoritative both historically and philosophically, telling modern readers what they need to know. This is the best translation of the Meditations available today.” Paperback, hardback, and ebooks are available at bookstores or online.
This meeting will focus on Books V and VI of Meditations, and the discussion will center on selected readings emphasizing Stoic principles expounded within the text. In preparation for our discussion, group members are asked to read Books V and VI and choose one or two passages of particular interest that they might wish to explore further. We will meet at the Market Cafe in Wegman's in King of Prussia from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on the second Sunday of each month. Optional lunch at the cafe will follow our discussion.
