Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Series Conclusion: Books XI and XII

Details

Having inspired world leaders, spiritual seekers, and many people throughout the ages, the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius is a book of immense historical and philosophical significance. Through a series of readings and discussions our group will explore Marcus’ timeless wisdom chapter by chapter. For this group, we will use Meditations: The Annotated Edition by Robin Waterfield, described by Yale philosophy professor Brad Inward as “A splendid translation… The notes and introduction are detailed but clear and authoritative both historically and philosophically, telling modern readers what they need to know. This is the best translation of the Meditations available today.” Paperback, hardback, and ebooks are available at bookstores or online.

This meeting will conclude our Meditations series, and will focus on Books XI and XII of Meditations. Discussion will center on Stoic principles expounded throughout the text and the lessons which group members have learned through the course of the series. In preparation, group members are asked to read Books XI and XII and come to group willing to share thier insights.

Optional lunch at the cafe will follow our discussion.
