What we’re about

Klezmer is a style of folk music that draws upon the traditions of Ashkenazi Judaism (Yiddish) and Eastern European folk traditions. We love Klezmer and look forward to gathering to share our passion for listening, learning and performing together. We will also explore the Sephardic Ladino tradition and related genres that have evolved as part of the Jewish journey through history.

Musicians of all ages, origins and ability levels will be welcome to our events. We also welcome those who simply want to listen enthusiastically. And of course, you don't have to be Jewish to love Klezmer.

Our programs will be free of charge, though attendees will be encouraged to make a donation to a public charity reflecting the group's values - such as supporting humanitarian relief for Ukraine (the land where much of the Klezmer tradition originated).

Participants will also be welcome to bring a snack to share!

Our Meetup organizers are Marvin Weinberger and David Brown.
Marvin, on the violin, was one of the founders of the Klezmer Conservatory Band. While David is a renowned classical and folk composer who also teaches and performs on more instruments than Marvin can keep track of.
