About us
If you enjoy being on the water whether it be the lake, ocean, bay, or river, this group is for you! For stand up paddlers, kayakers, surfers, and all water sport enthusiasts, this is the place to meet others who enjoy being on the water. Most paddles are exploratory paddling covering at least 4 miles or being on the water an hour and a half- two hours, conditions permitting. Additionally, most events require you bring your own gear however if there are rentals available, it will be posted in the event title and/or description. We paddle anywhere within a 2 hour driving distance of the Philadelphia area for day trips, ie Delaware, Maryland, NJ. Anything over 2.5 hours plus is typically an overnight. PPK is an excellent chance to try out an incredibly rewarding activity in a group! This group encourages folks of all abilities to join and try new things, explore different areas.
See you on the water!
ALL MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
1. This is an online social network that periodically hosts events where members meet in person. The group is NOT a substitute for competent, professional paddling instruction from a professional kayaker, stand up paddle boarder, surf instructor, or guiding service. Organizers, Assistant Organizers, Event Organizers, Members, and Sponsors do NOT guarantee the competence of any individual in this group. Members are responsible for their own safety and should be aware of their ability.
2. Water sports pose dangers in any environment- calm, flat water to waves. Any and all consequences as a result of participating in a Meetup activity, including but not limited to personal injury and property damage or loss are an accepted risk to the participant. If you get hurt or suffer property damage or loss in connection with an event posted on this website, it is entirely your responsibility and NOT the responsibility of the Meetup group or any individuals associated with the Meetup group. BY JOINING AND PARTICIPATING WITH THIS GROUP YOU ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR SAFETY, BELONGINGS, HEALTH, AND WELL-BEING, WITH NO EXCEPTIONS.
3. Be courteous to your fellow paddlers. Please only RSVP if you seriously plan on attending; not just holding a spot and waiting for a "better" option. If your plans change and you cannot attend an event, please change your RSVP ASAP so we do not expect you.
4. Posted event times will be the meet time. Allow sufficient time for parking, unloading, and journey prep (ie bathroom, sunscreen, snack, etc) to be ready for timely departure.
5. Inflatable kayaks such as Intex are not recommended and cautioned. In past experiences, they have difficulty keeping pace with the group and navigating, especially in breezy conditions.
6. Members may request to host events that do not overlap with another previously posted event.
IF YOU WHOLEHEARTEDLY AND COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, WELCOME ABOARD!

July 4 Fireworks Paddle (BYO SUP/Kayak)
Walnut Street Dock, philadelphia, PA, USLet's celebrate 250 years of Independence Day by watching the fireworks from the water!
This event is bring-your-own watercraft, no rentals will be available.
Inspired by It's Better Outdoors; In past years we've had an amazing view of the fireworks display from our vantage point on the Schuylkill River.
The closest guaranteed parking is the surface pay lot at 158 S 24th St. It's adjacent to the dock but separated by fences, so you'll have to take stairs up to Walnut St and back down again. There may be street parking closer if you look.
Aim to meet in front of the Walnut Street Dock by 6pm, and be ready to get on the water between 6:30 and 6:45.
We'll paddle south a little under a mile, then straight back north, passing Walnut Street Dock again on our way to the fireworks. (If you arrive late, or would prefer a shorter paddle, you can wait at the dock until you see the group come back and just join us for that section; however, please indicate in the comments if you'll be doing so.)Be sure to bring...
- A head lamp, glowstick, boat lights, or something so you're visible on the water.
- Tethers (ropes, leashes, cords, carabiners, anything that can link crafts together) and anchors if you have them. Please post what you'll be bringing in this category, I'll try to bring extras so that we have plenty of coverage.
Detailed photos of the meeting location coming soon!
