An introduction to Python for women and their friends

Learn and practice Python basics at this introductory workshop. This is a 1.5 day event, with sessions on Friday, June 22 from 6 PM to 9 PM and Saturday, June 23 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. You must be able to attend both days to participate.

Women and their friends who have no programming experience or limited programming experience. Men are welcome as guests of women who are attending.

We'll be following the curriculum developed by our friends at the Boston Python Workshop.

On Friday evening you'll set up your development environment, learn how to execute Python code from a file and interactively from a Python prompt, and practice printing and using Python as a calculator.

On Saturday we'll spend the morning on a lecture-based introduction to the language, taking breaks to practice concepts on bite-sized exercises. In the afternoon we'll break out into groups to practice Python through short projects on a variety of fun and practical topics.

Projects might include:

**graphing and data analysis

**using the Twitter API to write parts of a Twitter client

**wordplay and the power of regular expressions

**programming graphical effects for a ColorWall

Our goal is to provide a comfortable environment in which women can develop their programming skills with confidence. Our staff are from PyStar Philly and PhillyPUG
