What we’re about
Looking for thoughtful book discussions and good company? If you're a guy in your 30s or 40s who enjoys debating ideas and hearing what others think about a book you've just read, this book club might be for you.
We're a group of intellectually curious blokes who meet once a month to discuss philosophical fiction as well as other genres like sci-fi or dystopias with a philosophical bent. We're not literature professors or philosophy experts, just guys who want more from our reading than just a good plot. We're after books with timeless truths that make you think about life, human nature, and how we see the world.
This is specifically a men's book club. Not out of any disrespect to women, but because we're creating a space where blokes can connect through meaningful conversations. Men often struggle more with expressing deeper thoughts and feelings, and we've found that this kind of environment helps foster genuine connections amongst guys.
Most of us are juggling work and family with very little time to read, but we make an exception for one book each month. We meet at a pub, have a beer, and dive into discussions that go well beyond the story itself. It's a chance to connect with other thoughtful people while exploring books that challenge how we think.
You'll also get the opportunity to read books that fall squarely into the 'wouldn't have read otherwise' category. Half the fun is discovering authors and ideas you'd never have picked up on your own.
After a year of meeting privately, we're opening up to new members. If you're curious about philosophical fiction and enjoy a good debate over a drink, come along and see what we're about.
