Book discussion: Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre
Details
In October, we’ll be discussing Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre.
First published in 1938, Nausea is Sartre’s debut novel and a key text of existentialist literature. Written as the diary of Antoine Roquentin, a historian living in a French port town, it follows his growing disconnection from his work, his surroundings, and even his own sense of self. As Roquentin reflects on time, objects, and human relationships, he begins to confront the unsettling experience of existence itself.
The novel introduces many of the ideas that would shape Sartre’s later philosophy, including freedom, contingency, and the search for meaning.
