What we’re about

"The unexamined life is not worth living." - Plato, Apology 38a5–6

"All men by nature desire to know.” - Aristotle, Metaphysics 1.1

“I am not at all afraid of the arguments of the Academicians, who say, ‘What if you are deceived?’ For if I am deceived, I am.” - Augustine, De Civitate Dei, Book XI, 26

"Not how the world is, is the mystical, but that it is." - Wittgenstein, Tractatus 6.44

EVERYONE IS WELCOME. This group's purpose is to provide an opportunity for those new to reading Philosophy, as well as those who have studied it formally, to engage in friendly conversation over a range of short classical texts, and contemporary essays and articles.

In general, readings will be public domain or otherwise widely available: we'll attempt to provide links to e-text in each event listings.

Discussion will be limited to the text at hand, in the hope of including all participants, and avoiding unproductive argument.

Currently we are holding discussions via Skype, so everyone everywhere is welcome to join us. However, in the future, we will return to in-person meetups in or near St. Louis, MO.
