When Myth Comes to Life: Entering the Mythic Dimension

Are myths nothing more than stories inherited from the past?
What if they were never meant to be interpreted or explained?
For ancient and traditional cultures alike, myth is not a story about reality; it is reality. The Holy People of the Navajo, the Kachinas of the Hopi, the Dreaming of Aboriginal Australia, and the spirits of Haitian Vodou: these are more than symbols; they are living presences.
Changes in human cognition and culture led us to experience myth only from the outside, no longer able to enter it as a dimension of reality.
As a result, the wisdom of the ages became hidden behind a door we no longer even know exists.
We analyze myths, interpret them, or even dismiss them, unaware of the
treasures they may conceal.
What is the mythic experience? How does myth become a lived reality?
Can we still enter the mythic dimension today?
These are the questions at the heart of this talk, and perhaps the key to rediscovering a forgotten way of experiencing
reality.
The lecture will be presented by Hanoch Agassi, a licensed clinical psychologist, philosopher, and PhD Candidate in Mythological Studies at Pacifica Graduate Institute. He holds an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and an M.A. in Mythological Studies, bringing together clinical practice with the study of myth, philosophy, and depth psychology.
For more than twenty years, Hanoch has taught philosophy and mythology through New Acropolis, an international school of philosophy dedicated to the comparative study of world wisdom traditions and their relevance to contemporary life. His current doctoral research explores myth as a lived reality and the transition into the mythic dimension.
