Meeting 90 - What is Romantic Love? - IN-PERSON

Details
What is romantic love? Why do some of us feel this attachment to others? Why does love wax and wane over time? Why do some lovers last a lifetime together, while others burn out? Join us this week as we try to understand one of the more personal philosophical subjects. We will consider what it means to experience romantic love, and why we keep loving, despite changes in us, our beloved, and our circumstances. We will focus on the phenomenon of continuity in love, and why people sometimes continue to love one another. Explanations include historicity, emotional connection, limerence and sexual desire, a committed union, and identification as lover and beloved. We will also discuss heartbreak and the end of love: when and why love fails, where it goes, why it refuses to leave. We look forward to a discussion of why love fails and why love triumphs.
