What we’re about
About
Hello! This is a group for people who are interested in reading and discussing psychology, philosophy, and themes around those topics.
Everyone is welcome, whether you're a seasoned psychologist, have just read your first book on philosophy, or if you're 20 or 50. Having the right attitude is the most important thing!
I'm hoping we can build a friendly sociable group who want to share and discuss ideas, read books, and maybe go for a drink afterwards.
Where
We will be meeting once a month at Kingston library, on the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Suggestions
If anyone has any books they recommend or think might be of interest then please feel free to send me a message or post it on the Meetup group. Don't be shy :)
Some ideas of books which we will probably cover:
- Thinking fast and slow
- An introduction to political philosophy
- The consolations of philosophy
- The examined life
- The outsider
- The man who mistook his wife for a hat
Cost
There is a small fee for each session to cover the Meetup costs (approx £20 per month), and also to encourage members to turn up. If there is any money left over after Meetup costs then this will be spent on the group for Christmas drinks or get togethers.

See all- Maybe you should talk to someoneKingston Library, Kingston upon Thames£2.00
Maybe you should talk to someone - Lori Gottlieb
(suggested by Jo)One day, Lori Gottlieb is a therapist who helps patients in her Los Angeles practice. The next, a crisis causes her world to come crashing down. Enter Wendell, the quirky but seasoned therapist in whose office she suddenly lands. With his balding head, cardigan, and khakis, he seems to have come straight from Therapist Central Casting. Yet he will turn out to be anything but.
As Gottlieb explores the inner chambers of her patients' lives -- a self-absorbed Hollywood producer, a young newlywed diagnosed with a terminal illness, a senior citizen threatening to end her life on her birthday if nothing gets better, and a twenty-something who can't stop hooking up with the wrong guys -- she finds that the questions they are struggling with are the very ones she is now bringing to Wendell.

Regrets of the dying - Georgina Scull
If you were told you were going to die tomorrow, what would you regret?
Ten years ago, without time to think or prepare, Georgina Scull ruptured internally. The doctors told her she could have died and, as Georgina recovered, she began to consider the life she had led and what she would have left behind.
Paralysed by a fear of wasting what seemed like precious time but also fully ready to learn how to spend her second chance, Georgina set out to meet others who had faced their own mortality or had the end in sight.

- Happy: Why more or less everything is absolutely fineKingston Library, Kingston upon Thames£2.00
Happy: Why more or less everything is absolutely fine - Derren Brown
Everyone says they want to be happy. But that's much more easily said than done.
What does being happy actually mean? And how do you even know when you feel it?Across the millennia, philosophers have thought long and hard about happiness, and come up with all sorts of different definitions and ideas for how we might live a happier life.
Here, Derren explores the history of happiness from classical times until today, when the self-help industry has attempted to claim happiness as its own.
His aim is to reclaim happiness for us all, and enable us to appreciate the really good things in life for what they are.Where to meet
