First Threads: Skills, Agents, and a Live Bot

Most people correct an AI in the chat. Tomorrow's chat makes the same mistake.
First Threads is Session 01 of Day Zero, a four-session series from Ship AI running at the AI Exchange. Santos Hernandez, founder of Ship AI (https://www.shipai.club/), builds the entire session live on screen. This one runs more technical than our usual session, and that is deliberate.
It opens with thirty minutes on the AI stories from the past week that actually matter. Then the rest of the session is one idea, built live: most people do not need an agent framework. They need instructions the model can read.
That is what a skill is. A plain markdown file. A name, a one-line description of when to use it, and the steps, in your own words. No framework, no deploy, no cloud project. You can open it in Notes. The agent opens it too, on every new thread, so you stop re-explaining your business every time you start over.
What Santos builds on screen:
- Google's Agent Development Kit, and why a file gets you there faster for most jobs.
- What a markdown file actually is: plain text, a few marks, two lines of frontmatter at the top.
- Why the description is the whole game. "Helps with meetings" gets found by nobody. "Turn a messy call into action items" does.
- The anatomy of a thread that produces a file instead of a conversation: context, role, task, format, artifact. Same box, same model. The difference is whether anything survives the tab closing.
- Writing a skill live, using a skill that writes skills. Whatever you retyped three times this week is the one.
- The test: run it in a blank thread with one word. If it only works in the thread that wrote it, it is not a skill yet.
- The loop that makes it stick. Run it, read what sounded wrong, edit the file, run it again. Edit the file, not the chat.
- A sneak peek at Grok Bot: the same markdown file, the same skill, the same agent, answering live.
